Jack R. Steinhoff, 85, of Hornick died Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Hornick United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Catie Newman officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery, Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Root Funeral Home in Onawa.

Jack Roll Steinhoff, the son of Herman F. and Cora B. (Patterson) Steinhoff, was born on May 4, 1929, in Sioux City. Jack grew up in the Hornick and Smithland, Iowa, area. He attended school in Hornick and then country school and returned to Hornick for high school. On April 9, 1948, Jack was united in marriage to Gloria Pearle Steele in Hornick. To this union seven children were born, John, Jim, Cliff, Marilyn, Mark, Sandra and Gaylen. The family made their home near Hornick and in 1967 they moved to a farm near Smithland. Jack and Gloria continued living on the farm until moving into Hornick upon their retirement in 1992. Jack was a lifelong farmer. Jack was a member of Hornick United Methodist Church and was very active in the choir. He enjoyed music, which included singing for many weddings and funerals and was a member of the Hornick Men's Quartet. Jack and Gloria enjoyed attending their grandkids' sporting events and were avid Iowa Hawkeye fans. In 2012, they served as grand marshals for Hornick's 125th celebration. Jack had served on the Hornick/Holly Springs School Board and had been a member of the Masonic Lodge in Sloan, Iowa.

Jack is survived by four sons and one daughter, John (Deborah) Steinhoff of Sioux City, Jim Steinhoff of Onawa, Cliff (Janie) Steinhoff of Hornick, Marilyn (Fred) Teach of Blair, Neb., and Gaylen Steinhoff of Smithland; daughter-in-law, Deb Steinhoff of Hornick; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Carl Kluver of Essex, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gloria on Jan. 20, 2014; one son, Mark Steinhoff; one daughter, Sandra Rogers; daughter-in-law, Cindy Steinhoff; one granddaughter, Sara Steinhoff; and three sisters, Eva Humphrey and husband, Lewis, Elda Byers and husband, Vic, and Lois Kluver.
