Gloria Pearle Steinhoff, the daughter of Walter D. and Cecile P. (Madden) Steele, was born at home on a farm south of Hornick. She was raised in the area of her birth. Gloria attended school in Hornick and graduated with the class of 1946. Following high school, she attended Wayne State Teachers College for one year. She then taught sixth grade in Galva, Iowa, for one year. On April 9, 1948, Gloria was united in marriage to Jack R. Steinhoff in Hornick. To this union seven children were born, John, Jim, Cliff, Marilyn, Mark, Sandra and Gaylen. The family made their home near Hornick and in 1967 they moved to a farm near Smithland, Iowa. Gloria and Jack continued living on the farm until moving into Hornick in 1992. Gloria was a homemaker and had worked in the lunchroom at Westwood School in Smithland and also helped her neighbor, Irma Shupe, with upholstery work. Gloria was a member of Hornick United Methodist Church and was very active with the UMW. She was also a member of Hornick Library Club. Gloria enjoyed raising vegetables in her garden, bowling in her younger years, was an amazing cook, and was a true Iowa Hawkeye fan. Most of all, Gloria loved her family.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Jack R. Steinhoff of Hornick; four sons and one daughter, John (Deborah) Steinhoff of Sioux City, Jim Steinhoff of Onawa, Iowa, Cliff (Janie) Steinhoff of Hornick, Marilyn (Fred) Teach of Blair, Neb., and Gaylen (Judy) Steinhoff of Smithland; daughter-in-law, Deb Steinhoff of Hornick; numerous beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lucille Shaffer of California, Mary Jane Smith of Sioux City, and Jeanie (Darrel) Dunbar of Sioux City; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Mark Steinhoff; one daughter, Sandra Rogers; daughter-in-law, Cindy Steinhoff; one granddaughter, Sara Steinhoff; one brother, Clifford Steele; and two brothers-in-law, Bob Shaffer and Wayne Smith.
