William Monroe "Red" Allen, 81, of N.C. Highway 150 South, passed away early Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after an illness of five months. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Reeds Baptist Church Cemetery by the Revs. David Hedrick and Ray Howell IV. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at the home of the daughter on N.C. Highway 150 South, Churchland. Red was born May 22, 1930, in Davidson County to William Critten and Amanda Benfield Allen. He was a retired night watchman for Gordan Veneer, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Lee Foster Allen; brothers Sherman Alonzo "Jack" Allen and John Madison Allen; sisters Mae Hege, Eller Hill, Janie Condrey, Verlie Morris, Hazel Allen, Mary Cuzzen, Velva Baity and Jewel Brown; and one grandchild, Carly Del Allen. Surviving are sons David Allen of the home and Dale Allen and wife Tammy of Lexington; daughter Karen Lee Allen of Churchland; and grandchildren Jessica Leigh Hill and Chelsea Nicole Hill.
