LEE V. STAGGS
Lee V. Staggs, 92 of Shelbyville, died Thursday, June 24, 1993 at Moberly Regional Medical Center in Moberly.
He was born in Shelbyville on Aug. 8, 1900, the son of John Thomas and Minnie Pearl (Applegate) Staggs.
He married Violet Inman on Oct. 21, 1922 in Knox City. She preceded him in death on Mar. 19, 1990.
Survivors include two sons, John W. Staggs of Moberly, and James D. Staggs of St. Charles; one brother, Roy Staggs of Alexis, Illinois; one sister, Bertha Jane Hollenbeck of Shelbyville; two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, and three step-great-great-grancchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant daughter, and one brother.
Mr. Staggs was a member of the Shelbyville Christian Church. He served in the U.S. Army during WWI. He was a retired rural mail carrier and had lived all of his life in Shelby County.
Mr. Staggs was a member of the American Legion, Shelbina Lodge AF & AM 228, Moolah Shrine Temple of St. Louis, RAM Chapter No. 99, Malta Commandry No. 72, and Trinity Council of Hannibal.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 26, at the Shelbyville Christian Church. Burial was in Shelby Memorial Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Mr. Lee Staggs of near Shelbyville [Missouri] and Miss Violet Inman of Knox County were married Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Inman, near Knox City, Rev. Everly of Knox City officiating. They were attended by Mr. Chester Burch and Miss Ruth Staggs, sister of the groom.
The ceremony was witnessed by about forty friends and relatives, to whom a wedding luncheon was served following the ceremony.
Mr. Staggs is a son of J. T. Staggs. He is one of the county's most promising young men, is enterprising and upright and stands high in this community. He was a student last year at Culver-Stockton College where he met Miss Inman. The present season he has been engaged in farming.
The bride is a talented young woman, possessing many charms and graces. She was employed last year as Principal of the Rutledge, Missouri, public school.
Mr. and Mrs. Staggs will reside on the Staggs’ farm northeast of Shelbyville.
