MRS. RUTH MADSEN, 33, DIES AFTER OPERATION
Mrs. Jens Madsen, 33, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Staggs of north of town, died at the Laughlin Hospital this morning about 7:30 o'clock following two operations performed within the last two weeks. She had been in ill health for about ten years and was taken to Kirksville for treatment three weeks ago.
She was born south of Plevna, May 15, 1903, her maiden name being Ruth Staggs. She moved to this community in 1920 and graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1921. Later she attended Culver-Stockton College in Canton, and for two years she was teacher of the third and fourth grades at the local grade school. Her friendly and pleasant personality gained her friends wherever she was known. She joined the Plevna Christian Church but later transferred her membership to the Christian church here. She was married on May 28, 1925 to Jens Madsen, and he survives. Also surviving are her parents; two brothers, Lee Staggs of Leonard, and Roy Staggs of Sherrard, Illinois; and two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Jane Hollenbeck and Mrs. Ethel Dingle, both of near Shelbyville.
