Olive C. Bower, age 91, of Brookville Pa., passed away on May 29, 2015, as a resident of Brookside Senior Living.
She was born on Jan. 29, 1924, in Sanford, Fla., to William Percy Chapman and Annie Lee Jenkins. She was married to John E. Bower Jr., on Aug. 19, 1949, in Sanford, Fla. Her parents and husband precede her in death.
Olive was a retired professor of chemistry at Clarion University of Pennsylvania. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brookville, Pa., where she taught Sunday school for more than 50 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Margarete Bower of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Barbara Bower of Leetsdale, Pa.; two sons, John Eric Bower of Albuquerque, N.M., and Bob Bower of Richmond, B.C., Canada; two sisters, Helen Hoyt of Sarasota, Fla., and Virginia Anza of Sanford, Fla.; one brother, William P. Chapman Jr., of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Kyle Bower and Rhys Bower, both of Richmond, B.C., Canada.
In addition to her parents and husband, her sister Mabel Thomas, formerly of Sanford, Fla., precedes her in death.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church, 196 Jefferson St., Brookville, beginning at 11 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to the First United Methodist Church, 196 Jefferson St., Brookville, PA 15825; or the Rebecca M. Arthurs Memorial Library, 223 Valley St. Brookville, PA 15825; or Brookville YMCA, 125 Main St. Brookville, PA 15825.
