Born April 1, 1917, in Berwick, he was a son of the late John E. Bower Sr. and Margaret A. Williams Bower.
He was married to Olive Chapman in Sanford, Fla., Aug. 19, 1949. She survives.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Persian Gulf Command during World War II.
He worked as a supervisor for special education for several local counties and retired as the supervisor of the Intermediate Unit 6 in the area.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Brookville, where he taught Sunday School for more than 50 years. He was a board member and one time president of the Brookville Municipal Authority and a member of the Pennsylvania Municipal Authority Association.
For several years, he served on the board of the Rebecca M. Arthurs Memorial Library. He was a member of the Masons and Shriners, coached Little League and enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by two daughters, Margaret Bower of Pittsburgh and Barbara Bower of Leetsdale; two sons, John Eric Bower of Albuquerque, N.M. and Robert D. (Irene Waller) Bower of Richmond, British Columbia; and two grandchildren, Kyle and Rhys Bower of Richmond, British Columbia.
Friends will be received at 11 a.m. Monday followed by a funeral service at First United Methodist Church in Brookville with the Rev. Mick Chittester officiating. Burial will be in Brookville Cemetery.
