Helen went to be with the Lord on Nov. 19, 2015. Born in Sanford FL in 1920, she graduated from Sanford High School then Southern College in Lakeland, majoring in math. She met her husband Paul, a Methodist pastor for over 35 years, while at Southern. Marrying in 1943, they served various churches in Vermont and NY, then from 1955 - 1963 in Iowa, then back to New York until 1984, when they retired to Sarasota FL where Paul died in 2004. Declining health made Helen move to The Pines of Sarasota, where she died.
She is survived by 2 children, William H. of Raymond ME and Patricia W. of Anadarko OK and 3 grandchildren. 2 great-grandchildren are also in Fort Cobb. She is also survived by her brother William C. in Port Charlotte, FL and sister Virginia A. in Sanford FL.
Substituting in school whenever possible, Helen loved meeting and being with people and was always very active in UMC, especially the Women's Division and also the DAR. She was also active in various groups at Redeemer, including working in the Thrift Shop. She enjoyed gardening, houseplants, and crossword puzzles. She always had a ready smile and a helping hand, and will be missed by many. Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Redeemer, Sarasota FL at 11:30 a. m. on Jan 7, 2016 with her ashes scattered in the St. Francis Garden at Redeemer.
