The following obituary was published in the Muscatine (Iowa) Journal on August 27, 2008:

Cheryl A. Nissen, 68, of Muscatine, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at her home.

No public services are planned. Memorials and condolences may be left to the Cheryl Nissen Memorial. Garden Ridge Funeral and Cremation Services are assisting the family.

Mrs. Nissen was born Dec. 1, 1939, in Davenport, the daughter of Charles Martin and Hulda Katherline Holst Nissen.

She was a graduate of Muscatine High School, class of 1956, and the business college of Davenport. She also completed advanced course through Muscatine Community College.

She was an accountant at Carver Michaels in Muscatine for several years.

She had also been employed by Sunset Inn and Ina Mae's restaurants, in food and janitorial services with the Muscatine Community Schools and at Poole Transfer.

She had many interests and memberships. She raised horses and was a member of Hawkeye Saddle Club and Bit and Spur. She was a Girl Scout leader for several years. She was a great auction follower and very knowledgeable in antiques, buggies and sleighs. She made stuffed toys and in later years, lap robes for the Veterans Administration Medical Center.

She traveled a great deal and was known for her "truck and the flying canvas."

She is survived by one sister, Kathleen Reichert of West Branch; five nieces and nephews, Stephen Reichert and wife, Malinda, of New Windsor, Ill., Kelly Reichert Greer and husband, Kevin, of West Branch, Christina Greer of Seaton, Ill., Glenda Kennedy and Andrew Kennedy, both of Muscatine; 11 great-nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, Lawrence Kennedy of Muscatine.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Hulda Nissen; a sister, Mary Kennedy; two nephews, Waldo and Nicholas Kennedy; and a great-niece, Samantha Jo Wanek.
