The wedding of Susan to James Nathan Lipscomb took place at "Edgewood" in Edgefield County, South Carolina. Known as “the last and perhaps the greatest house of the Federal period built in South Carolina,” it was approached by a mile long, cedar-tree-lined lane. The house had been built for her father, Francis Wilkinson Pickens (future SC representative, US congressman, SC senator, US Minister to Russia, & Governor of SC) by her grandfather, former Governor Andrew Pickens, in 1829.

James & Susan were blessed with these children:

Francis Pickens Lipscomb (1849-7 May 1887)
John (Rev.) Lipscomb (b. 1850)
Eliza "Lalla" Simkins Lipscomb (4 July 1851-24 Dec. 1937)
Sarah "Sallie" Bonham Lipscomb (23 Aug. 1854-1938)
James Nathan Lipscomb (1856-1870)
Susan Pickens Lipscomb (1858-10 July 1887)
Thomas Jefferson Lipscomb (b. 1860)
Sophie Bonham Lipscomb (21 Jan. 1863-26 April 1939)

Soon after the War Between the States, Susan died on her husband's plantation, "Wildwood," near Chappells Depot, Newberry County, South Carolina. No doubt, her body was buried there in the family graveyard.
