Visitation for Maurce C. “Smokey” Bertrand, 93, of Kankakee, will be from 9 a.m. until services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Senesac Bourbonnais Funeral Home. Deacon Euchrist Marcotte will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Momence.
Memorials may be made in his name to the American Heart Association.
Mr. Bertrand died Tuesday, March 7, 1995 at Riverside Medical Center following a long illness.
He was born Dec. 22, 1901 in Lehigh, the son of Marcel and Mary Belanger Bertrand.
Surviving are his wife, the former Carolyn A. Straus, whom he married March 22, 1941 in Davenport, Iowa; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Burrell and Elizabeth Bertrand and Gary Scanlon, all of Grandview, Wis; two stepdaughters and spouse, Geraldine Prairie of Momence, Maxine and Ambrose Martel and stepson, Richard Bertrand, all of Kankakee; 11 grandchildren, one step-grandchild; 16 great-grandchildren, 18 step-great-grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; three step-great great grandchildren.
Deceased are 13 brothers and sisters and one stepson, Clifford Bertrand.
He was a former employee of the old Florence Stove Company in Kankakee. He and his wife owned and operated the Serv-Rite Restaurant on West Court Street in Kankakee for many years.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 802 in Bradley; a past member and governor of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 2051 in Westbranch, Mich, where he and his wife lived from 1967 to 1985.
