COLUMBIA - A graveside service for Vernon Houston Nelson, 88, of Colmbia, SC will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2015 in Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29201. The Reverend Melvin Amundson will officiate the funeral service for the Nelson Family. Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212 is assisting the amily.

Mr. Nelson, beloved husband of 61 years to the late Violet Sauls Nelson, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Heartland of Columbia. Born in Columbia, SC, he was the son of the late Dr. George Kaigler Nelson and Mable Bates Nelson. He was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his daughter, Bonnie E. Nelson of Columbia, SC; son, Dr. Larry H. Nelson and his wife, Joyce, of Sunset, SC; grandchildren, Traci Nelson Harrington of Central, SC, Dr. Kelly Nelson Tracy and her husband, Jon of Cullowhee, NC, and Andrew H. Nelson of Columbia, SC; great-grandchildren, Noah I. Harrigton, Madelyn A. Tracy, and Ella Grace Tracy; as well as the beloved family dog, Mollie.
