Clarence was born in Indian Territory, seven years before Oklahoma became a state, in what is now Collinsville. He was the oldest of 13 children of Johnnie Pleasant Zinn and Eva Frances (Berry) Zinn. He was in the tree-trimming and lawn care business in Fort Scott, Kansas. Driving his old blue truck, he would drop in at our farm in Missouri for an unexpected visit of maybe a day to maybe a week. He would inspect our trees and shrubs and give advice on how to keep them in good shape. If a tree had a problem, he probably knew how to cure it. He never married, but cherished all of his nieces and nephews. He was a "favorite uncle" to many.
