Lydia Wilson
Mrs. Lydia Wilson, aged 62 years and 27 days, died at her home in Mehan, Okla., November 13, 1935. Funeral services were held at the Vincent Funeral Home, Fifth avenue and Main street, in Stillwater, at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, the Rev. Amos Chase officiating, and burial was in Fairlawn cemetery, at Stillwater under the direction of Vincent Funeral Home.
Lydia Courtright was born near Cedarvale, Kan., October 16, 1873. She was the daughter of Richard and Hannah Courtright. She was married to Charlie Elwood at Arkansas City, Kan., in 1886, and the young couple moved to Oklahoma during the opening in 1889.
Six children were born to them, two of whom preceded the mother in death during their infancy. Sons and daughters of this union surviving are Cyrus Elwood and Harrison Elwood of Mehan; Clyde Elwood of Afton, and Mrs. Hannah Allman of St. Paul, Minn.
In 1899 she was married to John Shelton Wilson in Stillwater, who preceded her in death, October 28, 1926. To this union were born nine children, one of whom died in infancy. Those surviving are Mrs. Virgie Woodring of Mehan, Mrs. Lucille VanZandt of Mehan, Mrs. Elsie VanZandt of Mehan, Mrs. Nellie Stites of Stillwater, Mrs. Vernie Kinkade of Mehan, and Harvey, Andy and Willis Wilson, all of Mehan; also four stepchildren, Mrs. Grace Mayo of Kansas City, Kan.; Mrs. Pearl Franklin of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Mollie Griffin and James Wilson, of near Stillwater. There are 30 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters, the brothers and sisters being Joe, Charle and Wilbur Courtright, near Stillwater; Mode Courtright and Sadie Walkingshow of Blanchard, Ia.; Mrs. Hanna Ladd of Drumright, and Helen DuRain of Redrock. Three sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
The decedent united with the Pentecostal churchvin 1919 in Oklahoma.
