Robert L. McNeive, 78, of Freeport died after a battle with cancer on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Oct. 14, 1925, in Emmett, Kan., the son of John A. and Kathryn J. Murry McNeive. On Sept. 5, 1964, Robert and Nancy E. Vorlander were married in Freeport.
Mr. McNeive worked 40 years for Goodyear-Kelly Tire Co., a member of the production staff in France, Turkey, India and Freeport, retiring in 1991. He then was a supervisor at Malcolm Eaton Enterprises.
He attended Washburn University and the University of Kansas.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
His memberships included St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and he was a life member of Winneshiek Playhouse.
Robert was an avid sports fan of the Freeport Pretzels, Notre Dame, Boston Red Sox, Cubs and University of Kansas.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy McNeive of Freeport; one son, Michael (Maggie) McNeive of Oak Creek, Wis.; two daughters, Eileen Bierk of New Ulm, Minn., and Erin (Eric) Johnson of Hinsdale; seven grandchildren, Caitlin Bierk, Shannon, Meghan and Hayley Johnson, and Ryan, Alison and Daniel McNeive; one brother, William McNeive of Topeka, Kan.; and one sister, Rosemary Mahoney of Burlington, Vt.
Preceding him in death were his parents, four sisters and one brother.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Monsignor P. William McDonnell officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
