Daniel's parents were Benjamin Doty (1798-1850) and Mary Scofield (1800-1870)


Daniel and Louisa Miller were married April 22, 1870 in Morrison, Whiteside Co., Illinois.


His siblings were: Rhoda Doty- Cushing 1826-1881, Philander Gilbert Doty 1828-1896 # 14477344, Lewis Doty 1829-1877 #31834244, Charles Wilson Doty 1840-1917 # 14558684 and Marie Doty Briggs 1834-1852 #44005374.

Daniel Doty, one of the oldest settlers of the Neosho Rapids neighborhood, passed from this life at a sanatorium in Kansas City, Kansas, Saturday night, April 17, 1909. Mr. Doty had been ailing for a year past and was taken to Kansas City in hopes of being benited, but only lived a few days after his arrival there.


The remains were brought to his home and were interred in the Neosho Rapids cemetery Tuesday of this week, the funeral being preached at the Neosho Rapids church by its pastor.


Daniel Doty was born in New York state about 76 years ago, and when yet a boy his parents moved to Indiana, later to Illinois. The deceased servel three years in the war of the rebellion, and shortly after he was mustered out he was married to Miss Louise Miller at her home in Cincinnati, Ohio. They moved to Kansas about 1870 and settled in the Neosho Rapids community which has been the family home since.


The deceased leaves a wife and five children, S. A., Oscar, Marcus, Mrs. Carrie Hendrickson and Otho, to mourn his loss. Mr, Doty made a success at farming and was a good neighbor. His children all live in the same neighborhood that they were raised in except Oscar, who in an engineer on the Santa Fe and runs out of Emporia,


The family have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.

"Daniel Doty Dead. Daniel Doty, one of the early settlers of Lyon county, died at his home northeast of Neosho Rapids Sunday, the result of a general breakdown. He was 76 years old. Funeral services were held from the M. P. church in Neosha Rapids Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mr. Doty came to Kansas before the civil war and took up a claim on the land which has since been his home. He enlisted in an Indiana regiment and served through the war, and at its close returned to his farm in this county. His wife and four children, three sons and one daughter, survive him."

Daniel Doty was born in Almira, New York, Feb. 16, 1833, and moved to Indiana with his parents when a small boy, and grew to manhood and joined the Union Army and served nearly three years. In 1870 he married Louisa A. Miller and came to Kansas and settled where he resided at the time of his death.


Five children were born: Shephard, Oscar, Morcus, Otho and Carrie, all of whom survive him. Mr. Doty has been a christian for years and he leaves many friends who mourn his departure.
