BETSEY JANE DEAN LONGHURST

Born August 24, 1862 at Woodruff, Utah. Married October 2, 1884 in Logan Temple. Died October 29, 1943, in Woodruff. Both mother and dad are buried in the Woodruff Cemetery.
Betsey Jane Dean Longhurst, was, as we all remember her, a very quiet, kind and gentle, home loving person. She was a hard worker, never complaining as to her lot, even though money was something very scarce at our home at that time. She and Dad cooperated on every move, as to what to do next and how to do it best. Father got little jobs wherever he could to try to support the family of six children, such as traveling with surveyors as their cook. Wesley K. Walton also got him a job as a door keeper in
the House of' Representatives. (W. K. Walton was our representative at that time) Mother stayed it home caring for the children and everything else, as they were trying to prove up on the homestead where Asael now lives.
She had a beautiful alto voice and we children loved to hear her sing. whenever we could get her to take time off from her many duties. The six children are William Albert, Betsey Jane, Mary Ann, who was named after both her grandmothers, George Leonard, Clara Marintha , and Asael Dean. We had a wonderful, happy home as honesty and respect were two of the principals taught in that home.
She attended school in Woodruff, in the little log school house in the corner of' the Cox lot East of Birt Brown or grandfather Charles Dean's Sr. adobe house, which is still standing and is now owned by Ezra Puttnam. Mother died while living in part of Albert and Effa's home in Woodruff.
