Alice, daughter if George Washington Acre was born March 10, 1872, on a farm about 10 miles west of Unionville, Missouri. She departed this life, May 11, 1943, he age then being 71 years, 2 months and 1 day. She passed away at the site of her birth, having never been away more than a few weeks at a time.
She leaves to mourn her departure, three sisters. Mrs. Rebecca Loughead and Miss Addie Acre, bith of Unionville, Mo.; Mrs. Annie Mowrer, Burlington, Wash., one brother, George Dayton, of Newtown, Mo., twenty two neices and nephews and numerous other relatives and friends.
Twenty two years ago she, her sister Addie and her aged father took into their home, Harriet and John Mowrer whose mother had passed away and tenderly cared for them until they were through the grade school. The children were with her a great deal thereafter. Both foster children were with her and with other relatives and friends kindly administered to her in her final illness.
About fifty five years ago she united with the Christian church in Unionville, later transfering her membership to the Union church, As long as health permitted she was active in church work, teaching a Sunday School class for some time. Although unable to leave home for some years, she was still interested in church work, giving of her means for it's support, reading religious magazines and keeping posted on church affairs. _ _ _ was a member of the Ladies Circle of the G.A.R.
The scriptures says, " A woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised." Truly our sister Alice was such a woman,
Funeral services were conducted at the Acre home at 2:30 p.m. May 16th, by Elder Claud Mowrer. Interment was in the Winchell cemetery. The beautiful work of the G.A.R. was given at the cemetery.
