Claudia was born January 6, 1947 to Beatrice Thompson and the late Rufus Dempsey in Leslie, GA. She moved to Brooklyn, NY in 1965.
Claudia later met and married Francis Lambert Amos in 1967. Two daughters were born to this union. Francis died in 1970.
Claudia raised her daughters alone. She also had three grandchildren and one step-grandson.
Claudia achieve her Bachelor's degree from Touro College in 1990. She was the Tenant Patrol Supervisor at Van Dyke Houses with the New York City Housing Authority until her retirement in 2011.
Claudia is survived by her mother, Mrs. Beatrice Dempsey of West Palm Beach, FL., two daughters, Fanita Amos of Brooklyn, NY, and Frances Amos of West Palm Beach, FL,one step-daughter, Leona James of St. Lucia, W.I., three grandchildren, Robert Amos, Shaieysha Davis of Brooklyn, NY and Aaliyah Amos of West Palm Beach, FL, one step-grandson, Lucas Verneuil of St. Lucia, W.I., four sisters, Joan Whitaker of Brooklyn, NY, Glorious Dempsey of West Palm Beach, FL, Mamie-Doris Kornergay of Elizabeth, NJ, and Carolyn Dempsey of Kingston, NC, two brothers, Rufus Dempsey of West Palm Beach, FL and Robert -Lee Dempsey of Elizabeth, NJ, one god-brother, , Ulysses Preston of Leslie, GA, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
