They most likely traveled from Philadelphia down the Old Philadelphia Road, down the Shenandoah Valley to Roanoke. They then traveled "The Carolina Road", which is through the Maggoty Gap to the Carolinas. Originating as the Great Warrior Path of the Iroquois centuries before, the path was frequently used by the Iroquois before being ceded to the whites in 1744 to become one of the most heavily traveled roads in all Colonial America. This old road was located about where Hwy 220 north out of Greensboro toward Roanoke.
