Cox, of East Monroe, enlisted in the Navy for three years on April 5 and has transferred to the naval training center, Great Lakes, Ill., for his recruit training. Pastor Vernon Russell “Jack” Cox, age 86, of Greenfield, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Columbus.
He was born on September 6, 1928 in Leesburg, Ohio, the son of Russell and Lillian May (Neff) Cox.
He was the former pastor at the New Martinsburg Community Church and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Helen (Bowen) Cox whom he married on December 19, 1970; four children, Chester (Patricia) Cox of Honolulu, Hawaii, Tina Scharenburg of Greenfield, Helen (Derek) Gander of Bismark, North Dakota, and Michael Cox of West Virginia; three grandchildren, Kassandra Cox, Anthony Wycuff, and Anna Gander; one sister, Candi Cox of Hillsboro, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Felicia Cox and both parents.
Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 6 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Pastor Jeff Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Leesburg with military rites to be accorded by the Highland County Honor Guard.
