A native of Caldwell Parish, he was a retired agent for the Wildlife and Fisheries Commission. He was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. E. B. Barton officiating. Burial was in Zion Hill Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.
Survivors include two brothers, Alon L. Shirley of Winnfield and Ernest Shirley of Baton Rouge; three sisters, Mrs. E. B. [sic E. V.] Blair and Mrs. F. M. Gunn, both of Winnfield, and Mrs. Mildred Thornton of Huntington Beach, Calif.
