GALENA, Kan. Nina Nelle Morton, age 88, 905 S. Main Street, died suddenly Wednesday evening, June 7, 2006, at her home.
Mrs. Morton was born Feb. 10, 1918, at Galena. Her parents were Roy and Faye (Tackett) McKinney.
She was a lifetime area resident.
Nina retired in 1987, as head cook for USD No. 499, Galena, after working there 27 years.
She was a member of Empire Mission Church, Galena, the Red Hat Society and Galena Womans Club.
She was married to Chester Lee Morton on July 5, 1936, in Miami, Okla. He preceded her in death Dec. 8, 1992.
Surviving are two sons, Arthur L. Morton, Joplin, Mo., and Chester D. Morton, Quapaw, Okla.; one daughter, Rayma L. Cram, Galena; two brothers, Maurice McKinney, Diamond, Mo., and Bill McKinney, Ritchey, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 10, at Empire Mission Church, Galena. Pastor Eugene Fields will officiate.
Burial will be in Lowell Cemetery, Lowell, Kan. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 9, at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena.
