Thanks to contributor Steve Halley for the following:

*The Martha Halley (6 yrs old) on the 1860 Census, I believe, was a Census transcriber's error. She was actually a son named Matthew Halley (1854-1884). In the 1870 Census he (Matthew) is living with George and Mariah Ann (Surber) Halley and is 16 yrs of age. I had the privilege in my early years of corresponding with Ada Halley-Brown, a granddaughter of George Halley. She told me that George and Mariah Ann did produce one daughter named Polly Belle Halley. (Kind of makes sense, as George's mother was Polly Patton-Halley.) According to Ada, Polly was scalded as a small child and died of pneumonia a few days later. I have never located a grave for her either, and she never appears on any Census record. Anyway, are you in Macon County? I have made several trips down there for research, as my Halleys were there for five generations. Thanks again for the correspondence! Best regards, Steve
