Joyce F. Meridith 75, of St. Edward, NE, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014 at her son's home in Columbus, NE, surrounded by her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2014 at St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward, NE with Msgr. Ralph Steffensmeier and Fr. Jim Novotny officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in St. Edward. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the church with a 7:00 p.m. wake service. Miller-Levander Funeral Home of St. Edward is in charge of arrangements.

Joyce Francis Meridith, daughter of Merwin Henry and Francis Marie (Killham) Adams, was born September 28, 1938 at Fullerton, NE. She attended St. Edward Public Schools, graduating from St. Edward High School in 1956 with normal training. Following high school, she began teaching and taking summer classes from Midland University in Fremont, NE.

On June 10, 1957, Joyce was united in marriage to James Meridith at St. Edward, NE. They made their home and raised their family in the St. Edward area. Joyce taught school at Boone County District #66, #47 and #12 near St. Edward and then at Lindsay Holy Family for 34 years before retiring. She received the "Catholic Schools Teacher of the Year" award in 2001. Following retirement, she continued substitute teaching in St. Edward.

Joyce was a member of the St. Edward Catholic Church. She served on the Board of Centennial Cottages, the election board, and enjoyed spending time with her Coffee Girls at the Senior Center each morning. She was an avid Husker Volleyball and Football Fan, but most of all, loved spending time with the grandchildren and going to their activities.

Joyce is survived by her husband James of St. Edward; 4 sons: Todd of St. Edward; Joe of Columbus; Jerry of Gothenburg; Jason and wife Kelly of Columbus; 9 grandchildren: Jessica (Chris) Thacker, Amanda, Jennifer, Lesli, J.C., Elisa, Grant, Dezmin, and Morgan Meridith; 2 great-grandchildren: Alexis Seawel and Mason Thacker; 2 sisters: Bonnie Westring of Columbus Margie Novotny of Lincoln; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 grandsons: Alec Meridith and Kaleb Meridith and 3 brothers-in-law.
