CROSS, Kenneth L. Went to his heavenly home with his Lord and Savior after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, July 22, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at his home. Kenneth L. Cross was born in Scott County, Virginia on October 31, 1926 to Charles E. and Mamie Valerie (Loudy) Cross. He moved to Ohio with his parents when he was about one year old. He was raised in Preble County but lived most of his life in Butler County. He joined the U.S. Army in 1945, Tech 5th Grade and was stationed in occupied Japan. After being discharged from the service, he owned dump trucks and lime trucks spreading lime for local farmers. He never forgot his country roots. He met his wife in 1949, the former Junibell (Judy) Kadle and they were married August 19, 1950 at the Oxford Presbyterian Church, Oxford, Ohio. To this union, three children were born: Darrell L. Cross (Annette), Danny G. Cross, Oxford; Debbie Farris (Doug), Lenoir City, Tennessee. He and his wife, Judy, enjoyed over fifty-five years of marriage. Shortly after their marriage, Kenny started working for Addison Decker, Standard Oil Service Station at College and High St. in Oxford. He stayed on with Harlan Seals as his assistant manager for nine years. The late Glen Douglas got Kenny in his own business at a new Sinclair Station at Millville and Smalley Blvd. in Hamilton for two years. In 1961, Sohio representatives asked him to be the dealer at the Sohio Station at Millville-Oxford Rd. and Liberty St. He was at this place of business, Cross Sohio Service Station, for thirty-one years, retiring in 1992. Kenny was a family man. He loved and enjoyed his three children, four grandchildren, Angie Adams (Bill), Lenoir City, TN, Chris Farris, Madisonville, TN, Aran Cross, Santa Clara, CA, Anne Cross, Cincinnati, and one great granddaughter, Chelsea Adams. Kenny loved people and enjoyed being with them and communicating. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed having fun with family and friends. He was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds. Kenny was a sponsor of Little League Baseball teams in Millville for a number of years. He truly loved baseball. Kenny enjoyed playing his guitar, gardening, water skiing, fishing, boating and traveling. He and his family enjoyed their summer home at Lake Cumberland, KY on weekends and vacations. He belonged to the Oxford Presbyterian Church, was a 32nd degree Master Mason of the Oxford Masonic Lodge #67, a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Cincinnati, OH, Oxford Eastern Star #225, being Worthy Patron at this organization five times. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. Kenny is survived by all his siblings, Waldemar Cross, Ruby Faulkner, Fredna Cheek, all of Eaton, Ohio, Cecil Cross of Cincinnati and Jim Cross of Richmond. A very heartfelt thanks to Bob Whittaker and Paul Guffey for giving him such pleasure, playing guitar and singing for him numerous times. Also, a special thanks to Dr. Arthur Richards, Dr. Kenneth Wehr of Hamilton, and Dr. Brent Bader for their expertise and loving care. Thanks to all the health care providers for their care and compassion. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2006 at the Smith & Ogle Funeral Home, 5086 College Corner Pike, Oxford. Masonic and Ring Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on July 28 at the funeral home with close family friend, Pastor Herold Thompson, and the Rev. Dr. Mark Barnes officiating. Burial will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery and Mausoleum. The family has asked that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to American Diabetes Association.
