Maudie Ernestine Shelton, 82, beloved mother, grandmother, great and great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend returned to her Heavenly Father, having passed away April 4, 2015 at Mosaic Life Care, St. Joseph, Missouri.

Maudie was born December 22, 1932 in Shidler, Oklahoma, the oldest child of Andrew James and Ida Addrina (Jones) Henderson. Shortly after her birth they moved to Forest City, Missouri where she was raised and attended school. She was of Christian faith having been baptized in the Methodist Church in Forest City.

On September 11, 1949 Maudie married Joseph “Joe” Lafayette Hopper, Sr. and together they became the parents of seven children. Maudie and Joe later divorced and on May 22, 1976 Maudie married Dewey Pendleton Shelton. They made their home in St. Joseph.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Joe Hopper on August 17, 1978; second husband Dewey on December 20, 1991; brothers, James “Jim” Emil Henderson, Sr. and Lloyd Russell Henderson who died in infancy; sisters, Daisy Fern Cress and Dixie Mae Miller; a stepson, Melvin Henry Hopper; granddaughter, Ramona Jean Ridler; and son-in-law, David Eugene Schubert.

Survivors include her children; Ida Maybell Noble, Joseph “Joe” Lafayette (Sue) Hopper, Jr., Gary Eugene (Jeanna) Hopper, Allen Andrew (Sharon)Hopper, David Lee (Diana) Hopper, Yvonne Jean (Donny) Catterson, and Maudie Irene Schubert; step-daughter, Karen Jo Harvey, all of St. Joseph; step-son, William “Bill” (Charlotte) Shelton; thirty-six grandchildren; sixty-six great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; and former in-laws who remain close family members; brothers, Leonard Sullivan Henderson, Savannah, Missouri and Archie Phillip Henderson, Texas; sisters, Thelma Ruth (Richard) Schneider, St. Joseph, Missouri, Illana Addrina Turner, Savannah, Missouri, Lottie Leota Kinsey, Florida, and Anita Felipa Lee, Southern Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews; and a hose of friends.

Maudie was the family matriarch with a zest for life. She was the most happiest when being around all her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

Farewell Services 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.
