Ada B. (Abbey) Jessup was born February 22, 1913 in Grape, Michigan to Melvin R. and Ada B. (Kring) Brightbill. She received a teaching certificate from Michigan Normal College (Eastern Michigan University). She married Morgan Abbey on October 22, 1933, and they owned and managed Abbey’s Market for 38 years. Morgan died November 21, 1971. On December 8, 1984, she married Jean W. Jessup who died July 29, 1999. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Ypsilanti and did volunteer work for the Red Cross, the Well Baby Clinic and Beyer Hospital. Ada enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren, traveling, reading baking, hosting dinner parties, quilting, card playing and telling a good joke. Survivors include two children, five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, five brothers and one sister.
