The deceased was born in Florida, Montgomery county, N.Y., where at the age of 27 years he commenced the practice of bone setting with his father, which occupation he followed very successfully until the time of his death. He was married twice, first to Miss Debrah Van Patten, by whom he had six children. His second wife was Miss Diana Snook, who survives him. He removed to Illinois about the year 1866 and to Alexandria in 1881.
Dr. Sweet had a wide reputation as a bone setter, having been frequently called to Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin and other states on professional business since coming to Alexandria. He enjoyed excellent health up to within a week of his death, when for the first time in his life he had to call a physician.
He leaves six children as follows: Mrs. Nancy Pettingill of Austin, Minn., John V. Sweet, of Montgomery county, N.Y., Debrah, Peter, Samuel and Stephen R. Sweet, of this county.
The funeral took place from the family residence Sunday afternoon, Rev. S. D. Kemerer officiating.

Dr. Samuel Sweet died at his residence in this village, Friday evening October 7, of pneumonia. Deceased was about eighty-three years of age. He was a native of New York, and like his father before him was quite a noted bone setter. He has resided here about six years and was highly esteemed. A wife and six children survive him. The funeral took place Sunday afternoon, Rev. S. D. Kemerer conducted the services.
