Mary Analene Gibson Karr, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Dayton, Texas, on Tuesday, March 24, 2015. She was born on September 12, 1928 in DeRidder, Louisiana, to Annie Laurie Gripon and William Otis Gibson.
During high school she was an Observer with the Civil Air Patrol, watching for enemy planes and ships from atop the Anahuac courthouse. She received her pilot’s license at age 16, and loved to recount the story of flying a plane from Anahuac to High Island, and landing in the grassy fields there to spend the day with friends at the beach.
After graduating from Anahuac High School in 1945, she attended Sam Houston State Teacher’s College where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Her students in Devers, East Chambers, Anahuac and Houston were like her second family, and many returned to thank her for her encouragement; one graduate gave her his track award, saying he never would have finished school without her support. Her students were consistent winners at science and history fairs, and she accompanied one of them to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
To her friends and family, Analene will always be remembered for her passion for sports. She worked for the Astros, Rockets, Texans, and the Houston Livestock Show for more than 20 years, she seldom missed a game or event, made many lifelong friends, and was a devoted fan. She was also an avid supporter of the Houston Police Department.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Anahuac and she also enjoyed her yearly camp meetings with the Jimmy Swaggart Ministries. One of her favorite memories was her trip to the Holy Land where she was baptized in the Jordan River.
She is preceded in death by her parents Annie Laurie Gripon and William Otis Gibson, two brothers Calvert Gibson and W.O. Gibson, Jr., and a grandson Tanner Karr.

Analene is survived by her two brothers Leroy Gibson, of Aurora, Colorado and Ronald Gibson, of Whitney, Texas as well as her three children Sheryl Shaw, of Anahuac, Texas, Terrie Karr, of Dayton, Texas, Kenneth Karr, of Delray Beach, Florida, ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a multitude of friends who will miss her dearly. Condolences can be sent online to www.sterlingfuneralhome.com.
A visitation with the family will be on Monday, March 30, 2015 from 11:00AM until 1:00PM in the Chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main St., in Anahuac, where funeral services will be conducted at 1:00PM, with Bobby Scherer officiating.

Interment will follow in Anahuac Cemetery.
