Harlan Harrison Appleby, 95, of Arthur, passed away at 11:44 P.M. on Wednesday, March, 25, 2015 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Harlan was born on August 30, 1919 in Delhi, Iowa, a son of Walter and Maude Myrtle (Shepherd) Appleby. He married LaVerne Pauline Guess on April 20, 1941 in Manchester, Iowa. She survives.

Harlan is also survived by one son, Terry (Mildred) Appleby; two grandchildren, Ronni Bayes and Harlan Alvin Appleby; three great-grandchildren and five nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald Appleby.

He graduated from Delhi High School in 1936 and was a four year letterman in baseball and basketball. He worked as a dairy farmer then beef farmer until he retired in 1979.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, refinishing furniture, baseball and spending time with family and friends. Harlan was an active member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Arthur.
