Mary Ann was born October 28th, 1864 to Jane Dummary (1848-1864) and Richard Richardson (?--1874). Mary's birth mother died during childbirth. She was about four years old, in 1868, when her father allowed James Allsworth and Sarah Tweede~Allsworth to adopt her. Richard, Mary Ann's birth father, was killed during a horseback riding accident in 1874. After a few years, The Allsworth family immigrated to the United States making their home in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In 1883 she married Walter Japp Edgar who was born in Fordel, Fifeshire, Scotland on November 10th, 1862.
Soon after their marriage, they began their beautiful family. Becoming the parents of nine children. With only four reaching adulthood. Sadly, Florence Virginia took her own life at 26 years old.
