Violet Wanetta Bower Shaffer, 87, died at 7:29 AM Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center emergency room. Born June 29, 1911, in Tippecanoe County, she attended Otterbein High School and lived most of her life in the Otterbein and Lafayette areas.

She married Murrell German on Feb. 18, 1933, in Lafayette, and he died March 13, 1967. She married Joseph Magee on Nov. 7, 1970, in Lafayette, and he died Oct. 2, 1982. She then married Paul Shaffer on April 21, 1984, and he died July 4, 1991.

Mrs. Shaffer was a housekeeping supervisor at Cary Quad and McCutcheon Hall at Purdue University for more than 18 years, retiring in 1972. She had been an active member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and later Oakland Hill Wesleyan Church. She recently attended First Church of the Nazarene, and had served as secretary of the Senior Adult Ministry there.

Surviving are a son, Glenn M. German of Lafayette; two daughters, Carolyn M. Miller of Lafayette and Betty (Mrs. James) Rosenberger of Otterbein; two stepsons, Charles Shaffer of Washington, IL, and William Shaffer of Burnettsville; four stepdaughters, Ruth Ann (Mrs. Frank) Mehall of Grand Rapids, MI, Mary (Mrs. Glenn) Brown of Delphi, Carol (Mrs. Paul) Barr and Jan Shaffer, both of Kokomo; 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 11 step-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and a grandson.
