THREE MEN WERE killed in a head-on collision on U.S. 40, one and one-half miles east of Lewisburg, Saturday morning. The accident occurred at 8:30 a.m. on the crest of a grade.
Dead are Walker Edward Crowe, 33, of R.R. 1. Lewisburg; Gale Bierly, 50, of R.R. 2, Lewisburg, and Dr. Wallace J. Tripp, 70, of 3003 Lasher, Birmingham, Mich.
Sheriff John Stover and Deputy Sheriff Don Unger, said Crowe and Tripp, the drivers of the cars, were killed instantly while Bierly was dead on arrival at a Dayton hospital.
The officers said Tripp, was going east and Crowe was west bound. Tripp passed one semi and was in the process of passing another when Crowe came over the grade and couldn't avoid the collision.
The car driven by Crowe went into the ditch while Tripp's auto came to rest on the highway. Bierly was thrown out of the car and officers had to pry open the car doors to remove the Michigan physician's body.
The deaths marked six persons killed on Preble County highways already in 1961.
…Bierly is survived by his wife, Ladonna, a son, Darryl, and a grandchild.
Services for him will be conducted at the Kramer & Moeller Funeral Home in Lewisburg with burial in Roselawn Cemetery.
