Tekla (meaning "God's glory") was born near Jawornik, Galicia. This village no longer exists due to the building of a water reservoir. This area is near the town of Dolzyca Komancza, Sanok county in Galicia. She immigrated to the US in 1910 to start a new life as there were Galician families located in the Chisholm area, where jobs existed due to iron mining. Tekla met and later married Harry Pouchak Sr. in Chisholm, bearing 8 children. Throughout her life she was an active member of the St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Chisholm and one of its founding members.
She was a kind and quiet personality of short stature, that never spoke ill words. Tekla enjoyed growing vegetables and flowers and canned food.
Endured the loss of four of her children- Michael and Mary due to illness, Harry Jr. from drowning, and Stephen from war.
