Maggie was the fourth child of John Brice Riddle and Catharine Douds. After spending her early childhood in the City of Allegheny, now Pittsburgh’s North Side, Pa., she moved with her parents in 1952 to Mercer Co., Pa., probably where she met her husband, Charles Erastus Waugh, whose family was also living in there in the 1850s and 1860s, and where Charles was a blacksmith. Charles was born on 4 May 1837 in Mercer Co., Pa., a son of Isaac Waugh (b. 23 Apr 1780, Cork Co., Ireland; d. 29 Oct 1870, Maquoketa, Jackson Co., Ia.) and Tamazine Frances Boyd (b. 11 May 1799, Kerry Co., Ireland; d. 17 Jun 1891, Clinton, Clinton Co., Ia.).
It is not known where Maggie and Charles were married, but their first home was in Maquoketa, Jackson Co., Ia., where Charles was a farmer and where their first child was born in 1868. At the time of the 1870 Census, they were living in Bloomfield Twp., Clinton Co., Ia., probably where their second and third children were born, and where Charles was a blacksmith. Maggie’s sister, Amanda, was also living with them in 1870. At the time of the 1900 Census, the Waughs were living in Homer, Dakota Co., Ne., and in 1902, they moved to Zion, Lake Co., Il. Maggie and Charles had three children—Homer Coston, Mary B. and Mabel Chenella. Maggie died of tuberculosis. Charles died on 10 Jan 1934 at the age of 97 and is buried with Margaretta at Mount Olivet Cemetery on Kenosha Rd. in Zion, Il.
