Pioneer Farmer Is Called To Reward

Kelly Askew, pioneer settler in the Green valley community, 13 miles southwest of Carnegie, died Wednesday of last week at the home of his niece, Mrs. J.S. McDonald. Funeral services were held at Green Valley Thursday at 2:30 o'clock by Rev. Garland Howard, pastor of the Baptist church, and burial was made in the Green valley cemetery.
Kelly Askew, was born Feb. 19, 1868, in Johnson county, Mo., died at Carnegie, Okla., Feb. 14, 1934, aged 65 years, 11 months and 25 days.
He was the son of Ellis and Rachael Askew, and with his parents moved to Texas when he was 7 years old. He grew to manhood there and was married to Nannie Camp, who died in 1892. To this union was born one son, V. Askew. He came to Oklahoma at the time of the opening, and was married to Oma Reynolds Jan. 30, 1896. To this union were born seven children. One daughter, Nona, preceded him in death. He is survived by the widow, five sons and two daughters. They are V. and Roy Askew, Del Rio, Texas; Mrs. Sam Jones, San Marcos, Texas; Mrs. Frank Summers, Meers, Okla.; and Melvin, Lowell and Rendall who live at home.
He was converted when a young man but never united with a church. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and was loved by all who knew him.
