Glen Robert Turner was born into a loving, Christian home just outside of Blackwell, OK on August 9, 1926. He was raised with strong Christian values, as his mother took part in the foundation of Falls Creek Baptist Camp. Glen accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at age 11. One of his favorite things to do was read his Bible. Glen has read the Bible cover to cover annually for more than 40 years.

As a child of the Depression, he always had a desire for being successful and his family being comfortable. Immediately after graduating high school, Glen enlisted in the Navy. He served during WWII from 1944-1946. He was trained as a PT boat mechanic. His troop was ordered back to Japan after the bombs dropped for clean up. When he returned to the States, he immediately enrolled in Oklahoma A&M (today known as Oklahoma State University). He received a bachelor's degree and actually was just a paper away from a master's degree in engineering.

After graduating college, Glen moved to Lubbock, TX to be their City Planner. While in Lubbock, he met Betty Romans. He and Betty joined the Singles Class at First Baptist Church in Lubbock to get more acquainted. They fell in love and on February 11, 1954, they were married at FBC of Lubbock. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Tulsa, OK, where Glen became the director of the Tulsa Metropolitan Area Planning Commission. Later, he took a position with the firm Hudgins, Thompson and Ball and relocated as V.P. of Engineering to OKC. In 1970, Glen started his own consulting firm, Glen R. Turner & Assoc. Glen retired after more than 30 years of assisting rural towns with grants from the government to update their towns, add affordable housing and such.

After moving to OKC, the Turners found a wonderful church to attend. They joined Northwest Baptist Church in September of 1968. There, they both formed some of the best relationships they ever knew. Glen with his wife, Betty, was lovingly committed to service for God and served in many different capacities of the church. They made scholarships available for people to go to church camp, bought thousands of Bibles for missions overseas, unrelentingly tithed their share or more and just in their everyday actions showed what it was to be a Christian. Glen was also the leader of the NWBC Prayer Team and met weekly to pray for specific needs of the church and its family for over 20 years.

Glen loved to watch football and basketball, especially if it was OSU. He loved to spend time with his family. Glen was also an avid sportsman. His passion was for bird hunting of all kinds. He and his friends went pheasant hunting annually for more than 40 years. He was so excited to take his great-grandson, Stevie, for his first trip even before Stevie could hunt. Glen would go hunting anytime there was an open spot in his calendar, even until just a couple years ago. When Glen's wife became ill with Alzheimer's, he cared for her lovingly for 15 years until she went to Heaven in 2008. Glen spent his last several years hunting, playing Bridge, working out at the Pacer Center, enjoying his family and glorifying God in service at NWBC.

Papa, as we lovingly called him, was a fantastic leader of our family, as he certainly passed down his love for Jesus, family and service. Mimi and Papa will both be greatly missed and we look forward to seeing them again in Heaven. Glen is survived by Helen Carroll, his sister and her family; Gary, his son; Tammie and Melissa, his granddaughters; Corey, his grandson-in-law; Stephen, Marcus and Carson, his great-grandsons; and Victoria, his great-granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Glen's favorite cause: buying Bibles to send overseas to missionaries to be dispersed to people who have never heard of Jesus: M.I.N.T.O.R., PO Box 32092, OKC, OK 73123. Visitation is at Guardian West Funeral Home, 5820 NW 41st St., Warr Acres, OK, on Sunday, January 25, 1-8 pm. Funeral Services will be 10 am Monday, January 26, at Northwest Baptist Church, 3030 NW 23rd St., Oklahoma City, with burial in Rose Hill Burial Park.
