The beautiful Velma and her family lived in Petoskey in the 40s and 50s. Her son Leo Ward died recently. Patsy, Velma’s oldest daughter often visited her Grandma Bertha when she lived and worked on Petoskey Street. There she played with Punky in the sandbox out back by the railroad tracks between Petoskey Iron Works (Bowley’s/Hoffman's Machine Shop.News-Review now).
Patsy and Punky of them waved to summer passengers on the trains rolling by as they sat by the windows of the dinner eating and drinking. It was there too, that after seeing a picture in a story book, that Patsy and Punky tried to dig a hole through the sand box to China.
From about 1947-1950, Patsy and her siblings, Leo and Sandy, all attended Central School in Petoskey, Michigan.
