Louis Thomas (LT) Gucker Jr. died January 29, 2015 of causes incident to age. He was born July 20, 1921 in Pocatello, Idaho to Esther Irene Bloom and Louis Thomas Gucker Sr. He had 2 older sisters, Francis and Josephine Kelly. When LT was very young, his parents divorced and his father and his maternal grandmother Minnie Bloom raised LT.

He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic school for 2 years, Tyhee elementary school, Irving Jr. High and graduated Pocatello High School in 1940. After graduation, He worked at General Mills to buy his first motorcycle. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp, and served between 1942-1946. While he was in the service, he became a radio operator in the air traffic control tower. LT was stationed in Dutch Guiana and Trinidad. He would handle international military flights coming for the United States, South America and the African coast.

The same year that LT enlisted in the military he met a beautiful young woman. Inga Ruth Sims became the girl of his dreams. LT and Inga drove to Reno, Nevada with Walt and Loa Elledge in a 1941 1-ton flatbed Chevy owned by LTs’ dad. They married on May 21, 1946 in Reno. In 2002, LT made the choice to be baptized and become a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. One year later on their 56th wedding anniversary, he and Inga were sealed in the Idaho Falls temple.

They made their home in the Tyhee area, at the corner of Laughran and Tyhee roads. The first home on the property was a two-bedroom home, later building and moving to a five-bedroom, two-bathroom home with a full basement at the same address. LT and Inga farmed and worked together while raising a family of six children, later expanding the farming operation to 1,000 acres. While farming, in the off-season, LT would work for Pein Equipment repairing tractors, and later he would weld for Partner Steel in Pocatello. After retiring from fulltime farming He went to work for J.B. Parson’s in Wyoming for a year. He then worked for Westinghouse and WISE Welding. Even after retiring, LT worked for his son-in-law at Walker Monument.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, he especially enjoyed the annual elk hunt with close friends in the Selway. He rode with the Bannock County Sheriff’s Posse Association, was an active member of the BPOE (Elk’s Club). LT and Inga were members of the JACL (Japanese American Citizens League), VFW, ISU Bengal Boosters, Snowmobile Association and the Choo Choo Square dancers.

He is survived by Renee (Don) Babcock, Pocatello, Tom (Pat) Gucker, Arco, Id., Carolyn (Joe) Chandler, Eagle, Id., Sidni (Jerry) Meyers, Salmon, Id., Stacey (Michael) Landon, Pocatello, Id., and Dennis Anderson, (son-in-law). LT has 34 grandchildren, 83 1/2 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, with 2 on the way.

LT was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law (Jerry and Letha Sims), Terry Ann Anderson (daughter), Blaine and Blake Chandler (twin grandsons), and his two half-sisters.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Ridgewind Assisted Living, and Rosetta Assisted Living, Branch President Greg Evans and Relief Society of the Pocatello West Stake, 53rd Branch, as well as the Indian Hills Ward Relief Society. A very special thank you to his granddaughter Juliene Anderson of ACCESS hospice and Kristy his hospice nurse.

Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 11:00AM in the Indian Hills LDS ward building located at 5425 Bannock Highway, with Michael Landon conducting. The family will receive at the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave, from 6-8 pm on Tuesday evening, and from 10-10:45 am Wednesday in the church prior to services.
