Inga Ruth Sims Gucker passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012 peacefully of natural causes at the age of 85.
Inga was born on June 8, 1926 in Pocatello, Idaho to James C. & Leatha Spillman Sims. Together with 1 brother and 2 sisters, she was raised and educated in Pocatello, Idaho graduating from Pocatello High School. She married Louis T. Gucker May 21, 1946. They drove to Reno, Nevada with Walt and Loa Elledge, in a borrowed 1941 one ton flat bed Chevy. Those in attendance were her parents, sister Elizabeth, her husband Perk and her sister Mary Ellen.
They made their home in Tyhee at the corner of Laughren and Tyhee Roads. The first home on the property was a two bedroom, no bathroom home, later building and moving to a 3 bedroom, one bathroom home with a full basement at the same address. Louie and Inga farmed and worked together while raising a family of 6 children, later expanding their farming to 1000 acres. If there was a need to get parts for farm equipment, Inga became the "parts gal". Inga also became the bookkeeper for the farm. She was truly Louie's right hand.
When she was younger she was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, encouraging and inspiring her close girlfriends to come to church with her.
Inga was very busy being a homemaker and great mother as well as helping to run the farm, but she also worked several odd jobs as a cook, sales at a toy store, and stationary store. She was happiest raising her family, tending to a quarter acre garden, canning, raising and feeding chickens and herding sheep. In her spare time she enjoyed making quilts, handwork and most of all serving others. She loved camping with family, working on the farm, snowmobiling, four wheeling, and going on long scenic rides with Louie.
Inga & Louie were active in the Japanese /American Citizens League, the VFW, ISU Bengal Boosters, and the Snowmobile Association. She also loved to square dance.
A big hi-light in her life was when Louie was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the age of 80. The following year they went to the Idaho Falls Temple on their 56th wedding anniversary. Finally she was able to walk hand in hand to church with Louie.
She is survived by her husband Louis T. Gucker 5 children: Renee (Don) Babcock, Tom (Pat) Gucker, Carolyn (Joseph) Chandler, Sidni (Jerry) Meyers, Stacey (Michael) Landon, son-in-law Dennis Anderson, sister Mary Ellen (Don) Stetzner , 33 grandchildren, 73 great grandchildren(2 on the way), and 1 great ,great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Terry Ann Anderson, twin grandsons Blaine & Blake Chandler, brother Jerry C. (Delores Sims and sister Elizabeth (James B.) Perkins and special cousin Bill (Ellen) Spillman.
The family would like to extend a gracious thank you to staff & residents of the Ridgewind Assisted Living, Branch President Greg Evans and Relief Society of the West Stake 53rd Branch, as well as the Chubbuck 1st Ward.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the L.D.S. Church on the corner of Chubbuck and Hawthorne Roads with Branch President Greg Evans conducting.
