Zollie married John J. Wilson in 1920 when she was 18 years old. He was born in 1888 and was 14 years older than she.
They, along with most of the immediate family, moved to Maryland not long after the marriage. They were farm workers in Baltimore County, Maryland.
Zollie was known as Aunt Dah. This was because she raised her nephew George Junior Haga after the death of her sister-in-law May died who was married to Zollie's brother George. Junior could not say "Zollie" instead he said "Dah" and the name stuck.
She and Uncle John never had any children of their own, but they did raise Junior and also "Booty" who was her sister's grandson (Mildred's daughter Peggy's son).
She was kind and generous. She was very Christian and never wore make up, cut her hair, wore "fancy" clothes, etc.
She took care of people and could cook like no tomorrow. People gravitated to her, and to her house. It was a gathering place for the family and a place to be together.
John died in January 1980 at age 92 in Harford County, Maryland. Shortly after, Zollie moved to Timonium, Maryland where she lived on her own for about five years.
She went to live with Junior, in the house where John had died. She lived there a few years and then came to live with my family until she went to a nursing home. She died shortly after en route to the hospital of heart failure. She was 90 years old.
She has been gone now for almost 23 years, but is still as loved and thought about in the family as ever. A testament to a woman who gave her whole life.
