Orville Troester passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2010, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor, Iowa, where he had resided since December 29, 2006. He was 89 years, 10 months and 25 days old.

Orville Fred Troester was born on December 6, 1920, near Osterdock, in Clayton County, Iowa. He was the son of Louie and Caroline (Brase) Troester, Orville was baptized April 11, 1921, and confirmed on March 25, 1934, at St. John Lutheran Church in Guttenberg, Iowa. He received his education in rural schools in the Guttenberg area.

On May 28, 1969, he married Vella Meyer Birdsell at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. He farmed, was a cattle buyer and Funk’s G. Hybrid seed corn salesman in Garnavillo and Monona for 33 years. After his marriage to Vella, they bought a farm west of Monona and farmed there until retiring and moving into Monona in 1990. After his retirement he enjoyed playing cards, watching the Chicago Cubs, and visiting his grandsons and their families.

Survivors include his step-daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Keith Moon; grandsons, Jeff, Troy and Bart; great-grandchildren, Tracy, Nick, Kyle, Brant and Olivia Moon, all of Rochester, MN; brother, Kenneth (Elaine) Troester; sisters, Helen Hawkins, Florence Schroeder, Ilo (Keith) Thoma and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Vella on April 14, 2009; and his brothers Delbert and Raymond Troester.
