Florence Ida Louise (Troester) Schroeder, age 90, of Guttenberg, IA, died Friday, December 28, 2012, at Guttenberg Care Center. She was born on August 11, 1922 near Osterdock Iowa. Florence was baptized on September 3, 1922 at St. John's Church in Guttenberg by Rev. Lehne. She received her education from the Eagle Country School in Clayton Township. Florence was confirmed on July 3, 1938, at St. Peters Church in Garnavillo by Rv. Steege. There she helped teach Sunday School and belonged to Luther League. As a young girl Florence worked for various jobs for what skills she could provide for different people. On January 29, 1947, Florence was united in marriage with Stanley Schroeder at St. Peters Church in Garnavillo by Rev. Landgrebe which was an unforgettable day when a winter blizzard visited and guest had to stay the night. This blessed union gave them two sons, Curtis and David. David sadly passed away in 1960. Florence enjoyed working in the garden and her hobbies were fancy work, sewing, crocheting, making quilt tops for the ladies at church and putting puzzles together. Florence sewed many lap robes for the Guttenberg Care Center. She was a member of the Happy Home Makers for many years and the Antique Association. Florence was also a member of the St. John's Choir and the Church Circle. On August 15, 1996, Stan and Florence moved to town and still helped out on the farm when needed. Florence is survived by her son Curtis (Maureen) Schroeder; three step grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Hawkins and Ilo Thoma; one brother, Kenneth Troester and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Stanley on December 2, 2000; son David; two brothers, Orville and Ray Troester.
