Interment was in West Park cemetery under the direction of Gililland Funeral home. The Rebekah lodge held graveside rites.
Mrs. Sowell died at the Deaf Smith County Hospital on Sunday morning, April 12, following a lengthy illness.
Born Julia Dee Barrett on October 14, 1881 in Pilot Grove, Texas, she married J.R. Sowell in 1899. They came to Deaf Smith County in 1918 from Runnels County, Tex.
Mrs. Sowell was a member of the First Christian Church and was active in the Rebekah Lodge and Home Demonstration work.
Pall bearers were: David Sowell, Pat Sassen, Martin Reed Moore, Charles Frye, Gene Moore and Ivan Block.
Survivors include: six sons, William J. Sowell, P.B. Sowell, J.B. Sowell and Charles Sowell of Hereford; Edgar Sowell of Lordsburn, N.M. and M.O. Sowell of San Antonio; two daughters, Mrs. Pearl Singleterry of Texico, N.M. and Mrs. Troy Moore of Hereford, 16 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Luther Todd of Ryan, Okla.
