Death of William D. Bigler

Hon. William D. Bigler died at his home in Clearfield Tuesday, Apr. 9, at 10 p.m. He had for some time been suffering with Bright's disease, but his death came quite unexpectedly and was therefore a great shock to family and friends.

Mr. Bigler was born in Clearfield, Sept. 17, 1841, and was the third son of former Governor William D. Bigler. He was married in 1870 to Miss Alice Barrett, daughter of former Judge George R. Barrett. He is survived by his wife, three sons and one daughter.

In point of practice he was one of the oldest and most prominent members of the Clearfield county bar, having been admitted in 1869. In the earlier years of his life Mr. Bigler took an active part in Democratic politics and during Cleveland's second term was appointed U.S. Treasurer at Philadelphia.

He was identified with many of the business enterprises of town and county, and among other positions of trust held at the time of his death was president of the Clearfield Trust Company.

In the death of William D. Bigler Clearfield has lost one of its most upright, honored and universally beloved citizens, that highest type of manhood a noble Christian gentleman.
