LACROSSE -- John T. Phegley, Sr., 85, died at 10:20 p.m., Monday at the Little Company of Mary convalescent home, San Pierre, after a year's illness.
He was born in Austin, Ind., July 3, 1871, the son of George and Clarissa Phegley. He was a retired farmer and had resided in the LaCrosse area since 1913.
On Jan. 6, 1895, in Austin, he married Cora Faulkner, who survives. He was a member of the LaCrosse Methodist church.
Surviving besides the widow are three sons, Garner and Lynn, LaCrosse, and John Jr., Hanna; four daughters, Mrs. George Lynch, Waterbury, Conn.; Mrs. George Bellinger and Miss Clarissa Phegley, Indianapolis, and Mrs. James Freeman, Winamac.
He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Martha Nicholas, Austin; four brothers, Thomas, Harve, Charles and Ben, all of Austin; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One daughter and three sisters preceded him in death.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday at the LaCrosse Methodist church with the Rev. Arthur Schenk officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery in LaCrosse.
Friends may call at the Kosanke Funeral home in Kouts after 2:30 p.m., Wednesday.
