This is Granny (Gertie) in later years. She was already very stiff from arthritis here and could not longer walk. She had to be picked and and moved from one place to another. Her hands were always in a fist position, as she was unable to open them from the arthritis.

Frances Permelia Styles/Duncan - Frances was Gertie's mother. Notice how much Gertie and her mother look alike at about the same age. They could have passed for twins. Picture made before 1940.

Daughters & Daughter-in-laws of Gertie -L to R Back Row: Dorothy Steed/Stallings (Harrison's wife) Margaret Graham/Stallings (Tom's wife), Lois Gertrude Stallings/Smith (Winifred Smith's wife) Mary Allene Stallings/Vinke (Tyus Vinke's wife) Front Row: Frances Morrison (Dorothy's cousin) holding Shelba Jean Stallings (Earl & Wreath's daughter), Wreath Davis/Stallings (Earl's wife), Georgia Gertrude Duncan/Stallings & Frances Pittard/Stallings (Carl's wife). Picture made about 1942 at the Stallings Homeplace in Temple, Georgia. Note: All of the people in this picture have now passed away. Dorothy, (far left back row) was the last one surviving - she died 4/15/2007. ShelbaJean, the little girl in the front died from heart complications from diabetes on 6/22/1987. She was just 49 years old.

Frances Morrison was not a daughter or daughter-in-law - she was there that day and was in the picture.

Sons of Charley and Gertie Stallings - L to R: Emmette Carl Stallings, Charles Harrison Stallings, Earl Eugene Stallings, Thomas Watson Stallings. They went by Carl, Harrison, Earl and Tom. Harrison was the only child still living by 2007. He died May 6, 2007, just 21 days after his wife, Dorothy, died. Polly, Tom's wife, died 5/23/2007. They were the last three living Stallings' of that generation and they all died with five weeks of each other.

The Stallings old homeplace in Temple, Carroll County, Georgia. As of 2/2008, it still survives and looks to be in good condition.
