Virginia A. Hiett, 89, of Monmouth, passed away at 7: 24 p.m., Saturday, January 3, 2015 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Ill.

She was born on October 17, 1925 in Dean, Ia., and is the daughter of Orly and Mary Kirby Purdum. She was raised and educated in Molton, Ia., and graduated from Molton High School in 1946.

Virginia worked at Peters Jewelers in Monmouth for 20 years and also managed Country Keepsakes & Moore in Monmouth, Galesburg, and Normal, Illinois. She enjoyed sewing, painting, crafts, gardening and reading. She especially enjoyed time spent with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Virginia is survived by one son Timothy E. Case of Vermont, two daughters; Rebecca (Chris) Moore of Monmouth and Jane Hiett of Monmouth; grandchildren; Justin Moore, Nicole (Joey) Barazza, Evan Case, Peter Case, great grandchildren; Machaella Moore, Becca Barazza, and Jason Barazza. Also surviving are three sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.
