His memorial will be a celebration of his life on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 3:30 PM in the Mt. Olivet chapel in Fort Worth.
Brooks was a hardworking man with a kind and generous heart. He was always there to lend a helping hand, a kind word or his last dollar to the many spare kids and people in need he and Frieda took in and helped through the years. His wonderful smile, pleasant personality and strength of character will be missed by all that knew him.
His working life was spent primarily as a mechanic and serviceman although, through the years, he had a myriad of different and interesting jobs. He is best remembered as a man who could fix just about anything.
Brooks was predeceased by his his beloved wife of 58 years, Frieda Joe Wright Barrett, his parents: Singleton Brooks Barrett, Sr. and Linnie Lavada Jones Spann, a brother: Billy Joe Barrett and sisters: Lillian Ruth Barrett, Dorothy Fay Barrett Churchman, and Lavada Jeanette Barrett Russell.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Daughters: Kathryn Towson, Kerry Sanders and Melea Lucero and her husband Rick; Sons, Shel Barrett and his wife Gaye, Singleton (Tres) Barrett III and his wife Maurita, and youngest son, Choya Barrett; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; Brother: Richard Barrett; Sisters: Mary Hullett and May Kilgore; A great many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
